The Decolonizing Death Collective started out as the Decolonizing Death Cafe in Fall 2023, created by Dr. Shelbi Nahwilet Meissner (Luiseño & Cupeño) and Rye Purvis (Enrolled Navajo Nation). The Cafe has since developed into the Collective in Fall 2024, offering space online for a monthly book club, death cafe, and weekly writing accountability group open for scholars and community members.
